I used to be rich and went to a private boarding school for 11 years and then my mum (single parent family) became poor. We used to live in nice places but now we live above the shop she owns. I had to change school (public grammar) and i am in a really good group of friends that dont care about stuff like that because they are not exactly rich. What im worried about is my friends at my old private school because i used to be very popular, i try to avoid them now because my status has changed and im just embarressed of telling them i live above a shop. i live in an ok flat which my mum renovated and everything but its just i live in a shop. I know my rich friends from my old school wont care because i know they really and genuinely like me but im always making excuses about having to go to town to buy something just to go home. Please help
People dont really see me as poor though because i think i am wealthy in my character but im not trying to be someone else. If i want something i dont just ask my mum but ill make that money through a job or something so i have nice materialistic items such as good phones and clothes. the vocab i use as well really makes people think differently about me but again im not trying to be something else that i am not.

Sell and Rent Back

When people sell flats fully furnished, does it increased sale price and actually cover the cost of the goods, or is it just for the seller’s convenience?

To include the white goods, sofa, furniture, bed, wardrobes etc in the sale price, would this increase the value enough to make it worth doing? ie would you get enough money back to buy replacements?

If I rent a flat, I will be paying a substantial amount to live somewhere. This money would probably be equivalent to financing a boat purchase, and mooring fees. I’d probably keep more of my money if I did this (bought a boat). The question is, how much harder is it to live on a boat? What are the pitfalls? What would you do?

My husband and I need to move. I’ve been looking at flat rentals in the West midlands but I’ve never rented before. Also everything seems to be for at least six months which isn’t very helpful as we’ll probably be moving for job reasons before then. What can I expect to pay on top of rent? I share a flat/mortgage with my sister (in London) but after 8 years I can’t bear it anymore! How do i get out of it, bearing in mind the current economic climate?

We both want to live separately but of course ideally would like to buy separate places of our own. Our flat needs doing up and so may not have made much money during that time. If we sold our flat would we be able to buy separately places in London still?

The situation is made more complicated as she has been made redundant and currently is doing temp work. Obviously the situation has to be beneficial to us both.

What should I do? If we find we cannot sell the flat, what are our other options?
