flat mortgage
I’m currently just over 1 year into a 3 year mortgage, I’m panicking as my job isn’t looking as secure as it did! what are the options with mortgages? is there such a thing as payment holidays for people made redundant? if there’s nothing anyone want a one bedroom flat? haha
I should have added that I’m staying in the UK! dunno if we’re different

I don’t buy the idea that we are in a financial crisis because people used their home equity to fund inappropriate spending. I think that people took out second mortgages to pay for their kids’ overpriced college education, to pay off credit card debt accumulated as a result of job losses or health problems, etc. Many of these people simply would have gone bankrupt if the run up in housing prices had not given them lots of paper equity.

In short, I think the middle class is being scapegoated. People I know aren’t trying to keep up with the Joneses, they’re just trying to survive in a poor jobs market brought on by globalization.

Please share your thoughts, not parroting what you hear in the media, but actually sharing stories from your own life or people you know. Thanks.

Sell and Rent Back

rent flat

We want to rent a 2 bed flat or house in or around St. Neots because it works out cheaper to share this with 1 or 2 others than to rent a 1 bed place. Does anyone also want to do this, or where can I find someone?
yeah i’ve found places we’re interested in on rightmove.co.uk, it’s just finding someone to share with! thanks.

how to sell my flat and buy a house?

flat mortgage

I own 50% of a one bedroom ground floor flat - the other half is owned by a housing association. I would like to to sell my half and buy a new home. Do i have to reapply for a mortgage like I did in the very beginning - what is the process.

p.s i was thinking of purchasing the other 50% and selling the flat as whole.

Quick House Sale

flat mortgage

I am considering buying a quarter share in an Edinburgh (UK) flat. It has 3 bedrooms and I want to know if I can move into one and rent out the other two. This would help pay the mortgage and help me pay towards a bigger share in the property. I don’t know whether I should tell the housing association (who own the other 75%) about the tenants or should I just rent privately? Would they allow me to rent out rooms?

just a little bit of background.
i can sell a rabbit for £5 my families farm shop. which while still 16 means i can get up to £20 an hour.
i currently have a couple of methods: i have an air rifle and shotgun but with a shot gun the meat is generally to badly damaged and with the air rifle you have to be within 30m to hit it and once you hit one the others run away.
i am appalling for my rifle licence next year when im 17 so i can get a 22. or a more powerful air rifle.
i snare rabbits also which has its cons as i find that no matter what i do with the snare i always get some that break free.
i am getting some cages for christmas. and here’s dilemma should i just cage them and kill them or cage them and make a small run so i can have rabbits for orders and stuff.
secondly i use my dog to get rabbits, a big flat coat retriever( flat coats are quicker than a normal retriever) i stun the rabbits by shining a 10mil candle watt torch at them and my dog is getting better at getting to them. so has anyone got any tips on how to train a dog for ground based pick ups and chasing skill?
any hints and tips would be nice and any suggestions on 22. or more powerful air-rifles would be nice.
please no stupid comments.
I live in gloucestershire UK

Issue with rent increase (UK only)?

rent flat uk

Can anyone please give me some advice for a tenancy issue I have?

I currently live in a private rented flat in Londin and the ‘landlady’ has just asked for an increase in rent from me.

It’s a 2 bedroom flat but there are 3 of us living here as she is sub-letting to me and possibly the other individual who lives here too.

She is not the owner of the property but it is rented in her name via a Letting Agent. I’m not sure if she has the agreement from the real Landlord to sublet but I think it’s unlikely.

A month after I moved in she asked me to sign a basic tenancy agreement she had drawn up which stated how much the rent was, when it should be paid, stuff about cleaning the flat etc.

It also said she would review the rent after 3 months but I declined to sign it as this wasn’t something we’d agreed when I first moved in. She agreed that we hadn’t discussed this, wasn’t applicable to me and she wouldn’t be reviewing the rent. I trusted her so stupidly signed the agreement without deleting that part as I felt we had a verbal agreement she would not review the rent!

Anyway, I’ve lived here for 4 months and now she is asking for an extra £70 a month from me. Not a massive amount but it’s the principle!

What I would like to know is, does she have the right to increase the rent like that and if I refuse to pay the extra rent does this ‘tenancy agreement’ she drew up herself have any legal worth?

Any help and advice is much appreciated.
Sorry meant to type I live in London not Londin! Also, I called my local citizens advice bureau but they have a 1 month waiting list for an appointment!
she is charging me £70 a month more! Not sure if she has asked the other person for an increase.

apartment repair

I did some minor damage to my apartment, which I fully intend to pay for. According to my lease a tenant either has the damage repaired or the apartment complex repairs it & the tenant pays them. I’ve arranged for a reliable handyman to repair the damage. Now, in talking with the apartment manager, I’ve been advised I should have notified them before contacting a handyman, even if I plan to repair the damage. When I look at my lease (and I did that before calling the handyman), I don’t read it that way. I read it that I’m to contact the apartment manager if I can’t or won’t repair the damage. I’m on a month to month arrangement and the manager wants to give me 30 days notice to vacate. I’ve been in the apt 10 years, always paid on time, and have had no other problems. What do I say to managers at other apartment places when I tell them why I’m looking?. I shouldn’t lie about why I’m leaving.
I would prefer to be up front with prospective landlords and/or apartment management companies and not wait to see if my current apartment manager tells them.
