I have a list of repairs I need to make to my car that I could do myself for $150 in parts tops, but I can’t do it at the apartment complex I’m at. I just moved here so I don’t know anyone that could lend me their garage for a few hours, and the estimate from the shop is $700. Any ideas on a legal way to repair my car somewhere. FYI, It’s all tire & brake work….no fluids.
I live in the city, so I’m not going to have any luck finding a back road or abandoned lot where I won’t get caught.

However, the roof is flat, and I may need dormers to adjust head room. right now, the open to the attic is like …stairs and then a push in the ceiling to get in. I would like to add stairs. Does anyone know what the approx. price for renovating an attice would be, or is that something I can do myself. Any web cites for reference?

Quick Property Sale

I live in Michigan and may have a job opportunity elsewhere. The value of my house has fallen since I bought it and continues to fall as houses in my area go into foreclosure on a weekly basis. Assuming that I can’t sell it for what I owe, what are my options?

I have heard that perhaps you can sell it to the lender for the mortage value or maybe work out an agreement to sell it for less and maybe have the balance added to the mortage of the house you want to buy.

Don’t bother answering with equity loans…the house is worth LESS…no equity. And don’t bother talking about the effects of foreclosure on credit…I understand that, but I also declared bankruptcy about 5 years ago and within a year was getting non-secured credit cards at 9-10% interest, no annual fees. My problem with abandoning the home is that it will make it difficult to buy one and I’d prefer not to move into an apartment. And the other problem I have is I really don’t want to hurt my neighbors. Thanks!

I want a flat screen TV from Wal-Mart, which is about 188.00 right now. But you know, Wal-Mart`s prices are always changing. Being so young, it is hard for me to make money today, so I am looking for ways to make cash that don`t require ripping and running all over the state. I used to make key chains out of beads and pipe cleaners and that made 60 dollars, in three weeks. Then my mom suggested that I paint pictures and sell them. But I don`t paint very good, It takes too long, and it would not be a guarantee that the painting would sell. So at the end, I would have wasted all that time, wasted money, and have a painting that I don`t want. It is a good Idea, but would work better as a back up plan. Please give your ideas of what I should do….

Rent Back

I have withheld my rent for this month (I did get legal advice before doing so). I am going to leave in the next week or two if the inhabitable living conditions are not repaired and resolved. Can I get back my security deposit?
The heater was capped in March by PG&E for being a health hazard. They never fixed it. Also, the plumbing is messed up pretty bad…everything backs up and leaks. The owner was made aware of this months ago.

Sell and Rent Back

I live in a small one bedroom flat in Melbourne’s inner south-east (Armadale) that was built in the 70’s. It has a very small bathroom/toilet that I’d like to renovate along with other improvements for future resale.
I reckon the bathroom space would be better utilised if the bath was replaced by a shower cubicle. But I’ve been told that would reduce the resale value a lot (mainly because females prefer baths).
Do you think that only having a shower would affect the resale value of the flat very much?
