Mortgage Advisors typically charge their fees upon completion of the mortgage. In the initial chat they give you (which is invariably free) they will give you an Initial Disclosure Document, which among other things gives you information about the level of service they provide, and what fees, they charge, and when.

If you are not willing to pay a fee, and the Advisor tells you he is likely to charge one, then you should be up front about that there and then, as his time is just as valuable as yours. It is not always a problem however - some advisors are happy to waive or reduce the fee in certain circumstances, e.g. you are doing other business besides the mortgage through them.

If you go to a Your Move office/shop (they probably have details on their website) or the like then they have morgage advisors that get you the best deals at no charge to yourself, the company pay them so they make no commision from you and the companies pay Your Move a sum for getting business, they (the actual advisor)dont get the money (they are o a salary)and it wont be added onto your morgage either.

I did this recently and the deal she gave me was good.

Any company like this which deals with conveyancing will probably work like this - Ask in an estate agency.
