How do you touch up or repair an interior door frame?

My lovely cat has used the door frames of my apartment as scratching posts; I have to repair the damage without replacing the door frames and was wondering what could be done. I am not entirely sure that merely painting over the damage will do the trick since they are rather deep scratches.
Thank you all in advance!!

Assuming it’s a wood door frame:
Get some wood putty. Use a putty knife to infill the scratches, like frosting a cake (sort of). Press the putty into the scratches. Let it dry. Sand the putty down using medium to fine grit sandpaper. Repeat putty only if necessary. Prime paint, then final paint ENTIRE door frame.
Wood putty is a standard product. Ask for it at Home Depot or your local hardware store.
Wood putty is difficult to work with, but is a good answer. Instead, when I deal with problems like this in rental apartments, I use “joint compound, aka taping compound”. Get a small bucket of this from any hardware/home improvement store. There’s a “light” / “fast drying” type, I use this one. Buy a putty knife, and spread this compound onto the scratches. Allow to dry completely. Then sand until smoothe, and repeat the process if necessary 1 more time. Then paint.
