I ´m moving to London and I ´m looking for a flat to rent,but I don´t know what is the best location to rent a flat…I think that near the city centre could be good,but people say to avoid the city centre,on the other hand,Lond is very big,so I ´m afraid to live futher afield…I really need help…

Depends on your budget. Avoid the Southern suburbs cos they are a bit rougher. If you have a reasonable budget go for highgate or crouch end. they are leafy places that are pleasant. East london has it’s good places, but they are expensive, just off brick lane for example. Avoid Hackney and Dalston.
Yeah well it also depends on how much you are willing to pay.
There are some good areas that I would recommend if you want to have tube connection then move around Camden Town is queit good and also Holloway [N], that has got the Picaddilly line going through and close to Finsburry park [2 tube stations away] where you could easily change to Victoria Line.
Could also recommend areas such as Muswell Hill or Crouch end also North London.
These areas well nice, but you have to go to Wood Green or to Finsburry Park to catch a tube, which is one bus away so it is alright still. [But the only problem is, Muswell Hill doesn't have a night bus to Wood Green].
Anyways there are nice areas in South London as well, like Clapham [Clapham Junction, Clapham Common....]
But shouldn’t look areas such as Peckham, Brixton, Stockwell…
Also I would avoid Ilford and Hackney in East London.
Even tho i have bare mates from Hackney and I used to hang around alot, it is still queit a bad part of the town.
Islington is nice as well, but the tube hall is very scarry, specially when only a few ppl in it with you. brr.
The area is nice still.
West end is beautiful…Nottinghill Gate, Holland Park… these are well close to the centre [1 bus.].
These are the areas you should not move to:
Tottenham, Wood Green [North London]
Wembley, Harlesden [North West London]
Peckham [South London] maybe Layton and Lewisham as well.
Hackney, Ilford [East London].
Areas you could:
Muswell Hill, Crouch end, Holloway, Camden, Islington [North London]
Nottinghill, Lancester Gate… Hammersmith, Sheperds Bush [West London]
Clapham area [South London].
Romford [East London.]
I live in Highbury, which is nice but expensive. I also like Hackney Central and Dalston, it’s very vibrant. I recommend postcodes E1, EC1, E8, WC1, N1, N5, N7, N16.
Firstly London is only 30miles across so its not as big as you think and if you live near a tube station you can get to the centre in about half an hour in the outskirts.
I agree with the above answer in avoiding South London, especially South East London areas. Not because it is rough but because London tube connections are not very good so travelling around London would be difficult.
When you say ‘best’ though best for what? Best as in cheap, best as in good nightlife or best as in safe?
Clapham, Camden, Shoreditch/Bethnal Green areas are quite trendy and have a good selection of bars and places to go out and enjoy yourself.
I live in Chiswick, its very safe but theres not much to do but its clean and pretty. Alright if you’re looking for a quiet life. Ealing similarly is a nice area but you have to travel to go anywhere decent.
As for value for money, the further you go out the more you get for your money.
Some areas worth looking into:
Clapham, Putney, Fulham (SW London)
Chiswick, Ealing, Notting Hill (W London)
Camden, Islington (N London)
Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Shoreditch (E London) but only for easy access of a decent night out.
All the places i’ve suggested are close to the centre so you won’t feel too far away. Best place to find apartments is the Gumtree.com as someone already mentioned.
I seriously wouldn’t blanket dismiss South London - parts of it are rough but I’ve personally never had any trouble at all. Try Balham, Clapham, Brixton (yes Brixton), Putney or further afield there is Richmond, Twickenham.
