But as to the language and how they sounded, that type of English came down in the Appalacian Mountains. The early folk songs of the period were actually the way they spoke.
There was a movie not too long ago based on the mountain music and its early roots to England.  It was called Songcatcher, and its worth watching if you have the time.</description>
