well i do not know if this will help you but my sister went to Florence with a friend and stayed with a few people. she is college student and stayed the summer. (not for school but for fun) she used the website. good luck on going by yourself.

Look online for Craigs list. Go to the Italian cities and post an ad telling them what you want and when you want it. I know there is a Craigs List for Rome and I know it is read by those in Florence. There might be one in Florence by now. That will work for you. Florence is a nice city, the food is wonderful and
the people are friendly. Of course the museums are among the best in the world. You’ll have a great time.
