I’m moving to L.A. for 3 months from the UK and I am new to the city. Should I share a flat or rent by myself?

no questions about VISAs please, I am entitled to stay that long. It’s a much needed and deserved long holiday break
I have never shared a flat with complete strangers however, I would do that through a reputable estate agent, as I am a little terrified of living on my own in LA. What do you think?

Housing will be pricey out there regardless of how you arrange for it. You may be as far ahead to book a room in a hotel. Ask for an extended-stay rate, and you may get a slight break on the price.
It all depends. An average cost for a decent studio apartment (flat) is about $1000. A 1 BR goes for $1200. A 2BR goes for about $1500. If you split that, it’s about $750. So is your terror worth $250-$450US per month? Only you know that.
Check our roommates.com. You might find a roomie there.
Moving to LA? You mean you’re on vacation to LA for 3 months.
go to rent.com and check out their rental prices, but it would be hard to rent a place for only 3 months.
If you’re going to arrange a roommate through a real estate agent, you’re only going to be looking at expensive properties. Also, most leases are for a year, and you will have a hard time finding a roommate for just 3 months, especially considering that you aren’t from the states. So unless you’re looking at expensive properties, it’s going to be tough to find a typical apt in a nice area that is reasonably priced. If it were for the summer months, it might be easier, when kids return home from college, and apts may be available from June - August.
What you may end up in is a furnished corporate apt or long stay motel, like Oakwood Gardens:
or Extended Stay:
Google: corporate apartments Los Angeles and short stay apartments Los Angeles
Good luck!
It sounds risky to me to have a roommate you do not know. Do you have any friends or acquaintances that you could rent a room from? A friend of a friend? That way you would also have someone to help you if you run into trouble.
You could try a vacation rental. The website is below.
