You should check with your landlord. Even though some people will give you advice on what is legal or not, the fact is that if the landlord is aware that you are breaking your tenancy agreement he doesn't need to prove it in a court of law. After you have lived there for 4 months he can give you 2 months notice and replace you with someone who doesn't take liberties. Better for you and for your landlord if you keep to the spirit as well as the letter of your agreement.

Its not illigal but you could be in breach of your tenancy agreement, and getting on the wrong side of a landlord is not a good idea, becasue then they can ask you to leave at any time.

In the UK you are allowed up to 6 adults in one house without permission.

as naughty as this reply is - there is a way around it - don't tell anyone and make sure the other person keeps their mouth shut too - your landlord can evict you because if you sub-let which is what you are doing if you let someone else pay you to live there you are beaking your tenancy agreement - if anyone asks it is not wrong to let someone stay and not pay you - so just tell anyone that you are doing a mate a favour xxx

It's not illegal (ie you could not be arrested) but it would probably breach the terms of your tenancy and you could be evicted. If you're lucky you may find a landlord who is willing to turn a blind eye.

technically it would not be allowed as your tennancy will probably have a section stating that you may not rent out a room or charge other people to live there.

really though they cant do anything about it, just say they are not paying and just a friend stopping over if anyone asks.

i did it for a year with no problems when a friend had nowhere to stay.
