Im looking to rent a flat in the city center (preferably within walking distance to the city center) or somewhere near by. Maybe the west end, near Glasgow green, high street, ingham road. Or just on the other side of the river. Or! the west end.
What are these places like? Want to be sure that im going to feel safe walking down the road at night, i.e staggering back from the pub!

the gorbals, or just ask rab c
easterhouse or castlemilk
the west end is great–and plenty around you like the pubs–byres road has plenty-……****distant memories of a uni.pubcrawl along byres road back in 1981**. Also near enough to walk into town
lol.. you dont want the gorbals or easterhouse or castlemilk.. merchant city & west end are expensive for renting.. and Glasgow city centre is not the best of places if you are staggering back from the pub alone…
City centre is a bit of a mixed bag; it’s had a lot of redevelopment in the last few years so there are some really smart apartments available. Then again there’s always some trouble kicking off on Sauchiehall Street after midnight, and there are some pretty dodgey parts near the railways stations. I lived on Cowcaddens Road for a few months a couple of years ago and had no problems. It was nice to be in the middle of things.
In general the “nice” places to live are in the West End in the area around Byres Road, the Botanic gardens and the Great Western Road. There are some areas around there that are as nice as any city in the world…took me by surprise as I wasn’t expecting it in Glasgow!
I’m going to the university of glasgow in the fall and I’ve just made an agreement to rent a flat in the west end. I know this doesn’t really answer your question, but if you check out you can find flats available in the west end and you can also post a flat wanted advert for free! That’s how I found mine and it looks to be a pretty good deal.
Byres road would prolly be your best bet if your thinking about safety. theres loads of students there so its always busy at stupid oclock in the morning!
Good luck in your flat search!
But if you felt like braving it i rented a flat in the gallowgate (abercrombie st) it was cheap but a lovley flat. it had private parking and was a good area (considering the barra’s r 5 mins away!) the only trouble we had was when there was a football match and all the drunks would sometimes fight on thier way home. But i would definatly rent there again - i loved the fact that asda was 10mins away and town was 5! where i am just now town is 30mins away so that sucks lol
you want to stay in the westend - its only about 15mins from centre, but really close to all the students and nice places to eat/go out. Its also the ‘posh’ side of town so could be more expensive.
The Westend tops my list…have lived there and in the Eastend (never again!!)
Hi, dont rent property near glasgow Green (red light at night) of High St, they are quite rough area’s. West End is nice but pricey. Patick is full of students and quite near west end or go over the water to Queens Park thats fairly nice area and not too pricey.
