just a little bit of background.
i can sell a rabbit for £5 my families farm shop. which while still 16 means i can get up to £20 an hour.
i currently have a couple of methods: i have an air rifle and shotgun but with a shot gun the meat is generally to badly damaged and with the air rifle you have to be within 30m to hit it and once you hit one the others run away.
i am appalling for my rifle licence next year when im 17 so i can get a 22. or a more powerful air rifle.
i snare rabbits also which has its cons as i find that no matter what i do with the snare i always get some that break free.
i am getting some cages for christmas. and here’s dilemma should i just cage them and kill them or cage them and make a small run so i can have rabbits for orders and stuff.
secondly i use my dog to get rabbits, a big flat coat retriever( flat coats are quicker than a normal retriever) i stun the rabbits by shining a 10mil candle watt torch at them and my dog is getting better at getting to them. so has anyone got any tips on how to train a dog for ground based pick ups and chasing skill?
any hints and tips would be nice and any suggestions on 22. or more powerful air-rifles would be nice.
please no stupid comments.
I live in gloucestershire UK

i’d go with a ruger semi-auto. they’r reasonably cheap, effective, hardly ever jam, and have lots of after market parts. just out of curiosity, where do you live?
£5 for a rabbit - those bloody city folk will pay silly money!!
Ok, I agree a shotgun can do way too much meat damage to make your bunny saleable to a game dealer. Great for what I call pest control or keeping my eye in.
In my opinion if your going to the bother of getting a Firearm Certificate then ask for a variation for either a .17 Mach 2, .17 HMR or .22LR. Any of these are suitable for bunnies and the .17HMR is suitable for fox as long as you have it as a condition on your licence.
If your still after an FAC air rifle at the time of your application ask for a variation otherwise it will be £25 per variation plus waiting.
For FAC air rifles look at Theoben or Daystate.
With regards to your dog -sorry can’t help. The guys I know that lamp use lurchers.
Good luck.
check out gammo airguns,,there in 22 cal and qiuet inpressive i would get a semi auto, marlin model 60,,i have had mine for years and fired 10 k rounds and it will still shot a coin at 50 yds
Ruger 10/22 semiautomatic .22lr rifle. factory magazines are 10rds capacity, but aftermarket ones go up to 50 rds. pick a spot, put some food out and mow them all down. if you have a severe rabbit problem, see about if you can buy a SAR-180 rifle. its another semiautomatic .22lr rifle, but holds up to 275 rounds of ammunition. with a bit of training that’s 275 rabbits in a few minutes. Its about $1000 though.
The Ruger 10/22 is a very reliable and simple .22lr rifle, about $215 and highly customizable. unlike an air gun, it will shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger, so if you shoot one you can easily pop another half dozen before they can all run out of sight.
Does your farm shop have game dealing licence?
