LCD is screen is 32″ or smaller 720P will be fine over that you need to go with 1080p with a high 120 Hz frame rate would give you the best picture.. I would go with Sony ,Samsung, Sharp ,or LG all have low failure rate.. If you go with a lesser brand you will be more app to need an extended warranty taking the price up to the cost of a better brand.. I have a 40″ 1080p Samsung I got from amazon.com for $1150 delivered same TV was at Bestbuy for $1699
Plasma TVs are going away. They’re heavier, more fragile, use more electricity, and don’t last as long when compared to LCD sets.
Get a LCD set. I like Samsung and Sony, but there’s not going to be anything wrong with the other brands.
Most durable would be LCD. They do not have issues with image retention that Plasmas do. However Plasma have come a long way and permanent “burn-in” is very difficult to find.
DO NOT believe anyone who tells you that an LCD will last longer than a plasma. It is just not true. Both technologies have what is known as a “life to half brightness” it is almost the same on both technologies.
Product Service Plans do tend to be a bit more expensive on a plasma because the nature of the technology.
Now for the big one picture quality. Plasma has the edge here by a long margin. No LCD can match the color accuracy and depth, especially in black levels, to a well calibrated plasma. This is due to the way the image is produced.
An LCD television is backlit and every wavelength of color you do not see must be filtered out of a white light. This makes it nearly impossible to reproduce natural colors, and actually impossible to recreate black. Where in a plasma every pixel contains it’s own light emitting phosphors which can combine to produce over 16 million colors. But when none are in use the pixel can be made a pure black. A brilliant example would be any pioneer plasma, long heralded for having the best black levels.
Depends on your needs and your budget.
A regular old CRT is thinner and flatter than it used to be. It is highly reliable and much less expensive. They also aren’t available over 37 inches or so.
DLP TV is an option for a big screen that are bulkier than LCD and plasma, less expensive.
But, if you want something skinnier, LCD and plasma are both good and long lived. LCD is better in a room with more light and plasma better in a room with less light. Both SHOULD last 20 years or more. Plasma’s tend to be a bit less expensive if you compare the same screen size. Current plasma TVs do consume more energy although new models planned for late this year suppposedly do not. (if you live in a high altitude plasma won’t work)
OLED is the newest thing on the market for consumers. Use less energy and have an outstanding picture. But, for now there is only an 11″ size so….
Hi
I asked the same ?s a while back
I made a site for people needing the answers!
